Amazon seem to be experimenting with a new initiative that restricts access to new games to paid up Amazon Prime members – including Rainbow Six Siege.
Amazon are pushing their Prime service hard right now, with new exclusive to Prime streaming TV shows, music streaming, free e-books and a new monthly rather than annual subscription model. If you have not already tried it out, the current trial offer is 30 days for free. Try Amazon Prime 30-Day Free Trial
Consumers without a Prime membership attempting to purchase Rainbow Six Siege from Amazon.com are shown a box explaining that Siege is a “Prime Exclusive”, and will not be added to the basket. It may be possible to purchase from a marketplace seller instead. Other Ubisoft games are also affected, such as Assassin’s Creed Syndicate and Far Cry Primal.
We’re not sure if they are doing themselves any favours by restricting game sales to their Prime subscribers, but who are we to argue with the internet’s number one retailer?
